Walking for Animals — GORA’s First Animal Rescue Awareness Walk

August 2026: On August 9, GORA Foundation organized our first Animal Rescue Awareness Walk — a small but meaningful step in taking our mission of animal rescue and animal welfare awareness into the community.

Our main group walked a trail north of Atlanta wearing our specially created GO Rescue Animals T-shirts and carrying a message we believe deeply in. And the spirit of the walk went well beyond Atlanta. We were grateful to have friends fly in from Austin, Texas, while other friends of GORA joined us by walking in Boston, Seattle and Delhi. Different cities, different trails — but one shared message: GO Rescue Animals.

This was our first awareness walk, and we started small. We hope it is only the beginning. We would love to see more friends of GORA join us as we organize future walks and activities to create greater awareness and compassion for animals. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who walked with us and helped carry the message.

Supporting Sweet Olive Farm Animal Rescue

June 2026: GORA Foundation visited Sweet Olive Farm Animal Rescue (https://sweetolivefarm.org/) in Winterville, Georgia, a rescue sanctuary we have loved and visited many times over the years. We painted the barn, built a cowshed and made a mud pit for the pigs among other projects during our prior visits. Sweet Olive Farm provides a forever home for farm and exotic animals who are unwanted, injured, elderly, homeless, or in need of a safe place to land. The farm is a peaceful and welcoming place where animals and people come together through care, compassion, education, and community support.

This visit was especially meaningful because it was our first visit to Sweet Olive Farm after the founding of GORA. We returned not only as long-time friends of the farm, but also as a new foundation created to support the rescue, rehabilitation, and protection of vulnerable animals.

During our visit, we spent time with some of our favorite animals — friends we have come to know and love over repeated visits. We also spoke with the caretakers and volunteers who do the daily, hands-on work of feeding, cleaning, comforting, and caring for the animals. Their dedication reminded us that animal rescue is not a one-time act of kindness, but a daily commitment that requires time, patience, resources, and love.

Protecting Tybee’s Sea Turtle Hatchlings

May 2026: During a visit to Tybee Island, Georgia, GORA Foundation witnessed the remarkable sea turtle nesting cycle—mother turtles coming ashore, laying eggs, and returning to the ocean. We also saw the important work of the Tybee Island Marine Science Center (https://tybeemarinescience.org/), whose team helps protect endangered loggerhead sea turtle nesting sites through conservation, education, and community stewardship.

The Center’s Adopt-a-Hatchling program supports the protection of nesting sites and the care of animals at the Science Center. Inspired by this work, GORA Foundation joined the program by adopting sea turtle hatchlings, helping contribute to the Center’s ongoing conservation efforts.

Human Negligence Changing Widlife Behavior

December 2025: During a visit to Kerala’s Periyar Tiger Reserve (India), GORA Foundation witnessed how human negligence is changing wildlife behavior. Monkeys were consuming junk food and sugary drinks left behind by visitors, leading to unhealthy dependence and aggressive interactions with people.

Disturbed by what we saw, we documented the issue and formally appealed to local forest authorities (To: Office of the Deputy Director, Periyar Tiger Reserve & Field Director(Periyar Tiger Reserve), Kottayam, Kerala) with practical recommendations to protect the animals and improve visitor safety.

Supporting The Parvo Puppies

December 2025: GORA supported the Bassett Hound Rescue Group of Georgia (https://www.bhrg.org/) in their lifesaving care for two puppies diagnosed with Parvo. These young brothers were pulled from a shelter just in time, and their treatment is urgent and costly. Our contribution helps them to get the intensive medical care needed to fight this dangerous illness and get a second chance at life.

Powering The Python

November 2025: GORA is proud to support Scaley Addictions (https://scaleyaddictions.org/), a reptile rescue organization dedicated to caring for abandoned and surrendered reptiles. In November 2025, GORA made a donation to cover one year of food, housing, and electricity costs for a rescued ball python.
